This shared boy/girl sibling bedroom started as a completely blank slate, with bare walls and minimal furniture to clear out. The kids hadn’t moved in yet, so it was the perfect opportunity to design a space that feels bright, fun, and uniquely theirs!

Colorful room with a wooden rattan dresser, pink lamp, custom wall mural, and framed photos. Wavy stripes and bright patterns on walls and rug in Behr dragonfly, Behr noble rose, and Behr celebration

Step 1: Highlighting the Room’s Unique Features With the angular ceiling created by the roofline, I decided to make it a standout design feature by painting a cheerful yellow stripe across it. This bold choice added warmth and character while serving as the perfect backdrop for a whimsical string art "spaghetti mural." The strings flow organically across the room, weaving in and out of the space, some even reaching up on to the ceiling. It’s a design full of motion and creativity! Colors are Behr Dragonfly, Behr Celebration, Behr Noble Rose, and Behr Cabana Blue.

Step 2: The Ultimate Cozy Nook The biggest upgrade? A hidden kid-sized entryway was added to the back of the closet, creating a secret nook just for the kids! This tiny, magical space is perfect for imaginative play, bedtime stories, or quiet moments alone. I furnished it with a plush floor cushion for comfort and a cloud-shaped lamp to give it a soft, dreamy glow. It’s their private hideaway within their shared room!

Step 3: Functional and Stylish Furniture To maximize sleeping arrangements, the IKEA Kura bunk bed is complete with OEK-TEC certified bedding, ensuring a cozy and chemical-free environment. The star-shaped throw pillows add a playful touch while tying into the room’s bright and cheerful theme, and even the pillows are certified!

Step 4: Personal Touches Everywhere Storage meets style with the addition of a rotating bookcase and a rattan dresser topped by a curated gallery wall. This wall features portraits of the siblings (by So Many Moments), custom artwork by their daughter, and a funky little mirror to complete the look. These thoughtful details make the room feel personal.

The Final Result This room is now a vibrant, functional space where the kids can grow and thrive. From the bespoke mural to the secret nook, it’s a place where both fun and relaxation coexist. The kids are absolutely loving their new shared room and Mom couldn’t be happier either! All in all, it’s truly a room to bloom!

This playful, sustainable, and child-centered design is exactly what Little Room to Bloom is all about—bringing joy and functionality to family spaces in North Idaho.
